Salut cher Blog, Mana hoana Tongasoa à Madagascar,
Anyway, it was delighting to observe the kids’ fun while taking a ride on the fairy wheel or on the carousel driven by hand power. One had the choice between a rusty Citroen 2CV and a space shuttle with missing wings. Apart from being the amusement strip of the town another really promising observation appealed to me: There’s no fuckin’ McDonalds in town!!! Only the second country after Laos I’ve visited so far. The joy didn’t last very long, since the local soft drink, a brand called bonbon anglais and tasting like Hubba Bubba with Carbon oxygen, has already been incorporated into the global Coca Cola imperia.
Strolling around the city, I can hardly avoid looking for similarities to India. From the culinary point of view I felt excited seeing Samosas being sold. I’m not sure (and don’t want to be) about the ingredients, especially after having seen the living worms and scorpions being offered on the market next to the mangos and chicken. Anyway, they definitely can’t compete with those of Ganga Dhaba on JNU Campus.
Instead of my beloved rikshas an enormous fleet of 2CV and Renault 4 taxis occupy the capital’s streets. Charming alike! On the positive side, compared to India, one has to emphasize the existence of more or less well maintained sidewalks. Therefore it’s not at all suicidal to go per pedes. I don’t know what to do yet with all my senses I use in vain being out in the streets.
Well, what shall I say, life`s Mora mora (Shanti, EasyPeasy, Loggerfloggisch) here, but we’ll only stay until Sunday. Then our flight goes to Sambava, our final destination for the next three months.
Velum
